‘Fellini’ travels to Indonesia

The Italian Language Week in the World promotes Italian as a great language of classical and contemporary culture.

Every year the diplomatic and cultural network of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy chooses a theme for this initiative and organizes a series of events in the third week of October. In 2017, under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic of Italy, for the XVII edition of the Italian Language Week in the World (16 – 22 October 2017) the chosen theme is “L’italiano al cinema, l’italiano nel cinema” (Italian at the cinema, Italian in the cinema). On this occasion the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute Jakarta in collaboration with the Embassy of Switzerland and the Fellini Foundation for Cinema in Sion organized several events to celebrate the Italian Mestro Federico Fellini.

During the opening night Federico Grandesso, the representative of the Fellini Foundation for Cinema for Asia Region, gave an introduction about the exhibition “Sketches & Designs of Federico Fellini” . During the inauguration the Ambassadors of Italy and Switzerland cut together the opening ribbon greeting a public composed by diplomats, academics, journalists and important figures of the Indonesian cultural scene. The next day Mr. Grandesso conducted a seminar on “Federico Fellini and his screenwriters – from Tonino Guerra with Amarcord to The Interview of Gianfranco Angelucci” within the premises of the Institute.

On the same day, a cinema marathon on Fellini was focused on 3 iconic movies of the Italian director, I vitelloni, La Strada and Amarcord. During the exhibition the visitors could enjoy about 50 pieces, including screenplays, sketches & drawings, letters and photos, from the collection of the Foundation which are shown for the first time in Indonesia.

Stephane Marti, President of the Fellini foundation for Cinema commented:” I would like to thank the Swiss Ambassador to Indonesia Yvonne Bauman, The Italian Ambassador to Indonesia, Vittorio Sandalli and Michela Magri Director of the Italian Institute of culture for having organized this important event on the Italian Meastro.  Now we have we should think to education, it would be nice to teach, through specific courses or seminars, more and more Fellini in Indonesian universities, we want to explain to student abroad how Fellini is still contemporary”.
