Sandro Chia at Casa Rusca
Casa Rusca hosts from September 9th 2018 to January 6th 2019 a large retrospective dedicated to Sandro Chia (Florence, 1946), one of the most significant interpreters of contemporary artistic culture, whose production is known and appreciated all over the world. The exhibition is a unique opportunity to admire, for the first time in a Swiss museum, an accurate selection of over 50 large-format paintings, made from 1978 up to the most recent works, one of the absolute protagonists of the Transavanguardia.
This is also the occasion for a reflection on the artistic current of the eighties, through the works of Chia and other exponents: Mimmo Paladino, Nicola De Maria, Francesco Clemente and Enzo Cucchi. A movement, that of the Transavanguardia, which shows a return, after a few decades of supremacy of conceptual tendencies, to a marked painting and strong colors, together with the recovery of the stimuli that had fueled some of the historical avant-gardes such as Expressionism, Fauvism and metaphysics.
