The Catalan president Artur Mas, one of the main supporter of the Catalonia’s independence from Spain, decided to refuse to run for the head of Catalan government. He made this decision because he wanted to avoid early elections expected for the 6th of March.

So the Gerona’s president Carles Puigdemont, who is also part of Junts pel Si, will take the place of Mas. Mas said that his decision  not to stand as a candidate for Catalan prime minister has been difficult but it was the best thing to do for Catalonia.
