From August 21st. untill August 24th., Jambes, part of the City of Namur, welcomes you to her 56th. “Folk Festival”, with folk companies coming from:

Bangladesh, for the first time in Jambes (“FAB Communication & Bangladesh Cultural Center”, from Dacca),

Indonesia (“Arya Mahardika Dance Studio”, from Djakarta),

Mexico, with on Aztec Mythology dance (“Ballet Folklórico de Occidente”, from Guadalajara),

Lithuania (“Folk Song & Dance Group Varsa”, from Alytus),

Croatia (“Tanac Folk Dance Ensemble”),

Belgium (“The Caracole” and “The Alfers”, from Namur;”The Masuis and Cotelis”, from Jambes-Namur).

The 56th. “Folk Dances Festival of Jambes-Namur” will have four shows, taking place in the elementary school of the Astrid Park (“Parc Astrid”) of Jambes-Namur:

– Friday August 21st., at 08:00 p.m.,

– Saturday August 22d., at 08:00 p.m.,

– Sunday August 23d., at 03:00 p.m.,

– Monday August 24th., at 08:00 p.m.

Prices: 15€ (till 07 years old: 0€ / from 08 till 12 years old: 08€ / Seniors citizens: 12€ / Ticket for the 4 shows (different programs on each day): 50€ (till 07 years old: 0€ / from 08 till 12 years old: 30€ / Seniors citizens: 42€) / Groups (20 people or more): 10€ each one. Before the shows, you can buy your ticket at the gate, starting at 06:30 p.m. (except on Sunday August 23d., at 01:30 p.m.). On Sunday August 23d., at 08:00 p.m; “Folk Ball” (the oportunity to dance yourself with the folk dancers of different countries): 05€ (till 12 y.o.: 0€).

Tickets available till Augustus 20th., in all “Night and Day” shops or by their internet adress, on http://www.librairie.be; also in the “Tourist Office”, Station Square, 5000 Namur, 7 d./7, from 09:30 a.m. till 06:00 p.m. (081/24.64.49), or directly by the internet adress of he Festival: http://www.festivaldefolkloredejambes.be.

Two short free shows (just one dance for each company) will be offered: in the garden of the City Hall of Namur, on Saturday August 22d., at noon (with some welcome drinks for the audience) and on the Square of Wallonie (“Place de la Wallonie”), in Jambes, on Sunday 23d. (at 11:30 a.m., right after they singued and/or plaid music in the “Saint Symphorien” Catholic Church of Jambes, starting at 10:00 a.m.). Also, on Monday August 24th., there will be a prive reception gived by the Governor of the Province of Namur, in his Palace.

So, from the latin american rythems untill those of east european countries, as well as from Bangladesh, Indonesia of Belgium, you will enjoyed the musical traditions of three different continents, during the 56th. “Folk Dances Festival of Jambes-Namur”, the oldest folk festival in Walonia. So, everyone is welcome in Jambes-Namur, world’s folk capital, from August 21st. till August 24th., and don’t hesitate to dance with east european, asiatic or mexican dancers and musicians, on Sunday August 23d.
