Rotary International,110 years of history
Rotary International, the first and the largest service organization in this world, has celebrated its 110 years of history on February 23rd, 2015.
District 2060 represents Rotary in the 3 regions of the North East of Italy: Friuli Venezia Giulia, Trentino Alto Adige and Veneto, where it is present since 90 years with the two oldest Clubs of Trieste and Venice, and where it accounts 87 Rotary Clubs and 4500 Club members, plus another 800 members belonging to the two youth sections of Rotaract and Interact.
On Sunday, February 22nd, all these Clubs have decided to open their door to the general public for the first time in life, and they have organized many different events in 38 squares of all main cities of the district: from Bolzano to Trieste West to East, and from Rovigo to Cortina d’Ampezzo South to North. All Clubs were involved, either single or in groups, and in each city square there were events and/or services well studied for their populations: free medical check-ups available to everybody, music and theatre events open to everybody, exhibition of main services performed in recent years both locally and internationally, and so on.
Our estimate is that 15.000 to 20.000 persons have been directly touched from this initiative, and in addition the wide coverage given from the local and regional media has allowed to make Rotary better known to thousands of persons in the 3 regions, in accordance with our International President motto to “Light up Rotary”. A special thanks to Governor of 2060 District, Ezio Lantieri for his kindness and availability.
