Death of former EPP chairman and MEP Leo Tindemans
BRUSSELS
Former EPP (European People’s party) chairman and MEP Leo Tindemans from the region of Antwerp (Belgium) died this friday afternoon at the age of 92.
He was a christian democrat (CVP, Belgium)
Tindemans was born in 1922. He led an important political carreer on belgian level: for more than 30 years member of the belgian house of representatives, 2 times head of government in Belgium (1977-1978).
He afterwards began to express his views on european level and was MEP till his retirement in 1999.
Tindemans was EPP chairman between 1976 and 1985.
Tindemans was a proud fighter for a united europe and a single currency.
After former prime ministers Wilfried Martens MEP and Jean-Luc Dehaene MEP, his party (CD&V) loses a third prime minister in 2014
