EP community remembers the fall of the Berlin Wall

At the initiative of Delphine Bourgeois, deputy mayor of Ixelles for european affairs, a very important ceremony was held Wednesday afternoon on the esplanade of the European Parliament in presence of numerous personalities including Elisabetha Mogharini, Vice-President of the Commission  and High Representative for Foreign Affairs; Count Lambsdorff MEPs, Vice-President of the European Parliament; many MEPs; HE the Ambassador of Germany; Ambassadors of Portugal and Cyprus; the Belgian Federal Minister Willy Borsus representative of the Belgian government; Willy Decourty, mayor of Ixelles; Nathalie Gilson, alderman of Ixelles and Solange Pitroipa and Senator Alain Destexhe, municipal councilors of Ixelles.

The deputy mayor Delphine Bourgeois opened this beautiful ceremony and reported how the fall of the Berlin Wall had deepl changed European history … In Ixelles itself,  several parts of the wall stand now near the European institutions as  a symbol of freedom. One part of the berlin wall was solemnly inaugurated with a commemorative plate that was placed on it.

Several prestigious speakers have succeeded to describe what the fall of Berlin Wall meant in 1989 and what it means to be an European today.

A musical group sang the belgian, german an european hymns.

 

Different personalities gathered by Ms. Bourgeois then took part to drink in the old station of Luxembourg near to the EP.
