A VISIT OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT TO ISRAEL

The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz will make an Official Visit to the Middle East from 9-12 February 2014. President Schulz will travel to Jordan, Palestinian territories and Israel. He will take part in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean in Jordan.

On Sunday 9 February, President Schulz will visit the Al Azaatari refugee camp and be briefed on the situation of Syrian refugees in Jordan.

President Schulz will take part the in the plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean at the King Hussein Convention Centre at the Dead Sea from 11.30am on Sunday.

Later on Sunday, the President will be welcomed by HRH Prince Feisal Ibn Al-Hussein of Jordan. President Schulz will meet with the Prime Minister of Jordan Abdullah Ensour.

On Sunday evening, President Schulz will be in Jericho where he will meet with the Palestinian Chief negotiator, Saeb Erakat.

On Monday in Ramallah, President Schulz will meet representatives of Palestinian civil society. He will hold at midday a meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas, followed by a meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah. A press conference with President Schulz and Prime Minister Hamdallah will take place at 2pm local time in Ramallah.

President Schulz will take part in a field visit together with the Prime Minister under the lead of UNRWA and with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Jerusalem.

At 5.30pm, in East Jerusalem, President Schulz will launch the European Parliament Young Leaders Seminar Network for young Europeans, Israelis and Palestinians.

On Tuesday 11 February in the morning President Schulz will visit the Yad Vashem Memorial accompanied by Judge Gabriel Bach.

President Schulz will meet members of the Caucus of the Knesset to resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict (Two States Solution) chaired by MK Yehiel (Hilik) Bar, Deputy Speaker of the Knesset and Secretary General of the Israeli Labor Party. He will also hold a meeting with the Chairman of the Israeli Labor Party Isaac Herzog.

At 5.30 pm President Schulz will be awarded of Doctor Philosophiae Honoris Causa by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and will give an address on EU-Israel relations on the occasion.

On Wednesday 12 February, President Schulz will hold meetings with Israeli civil society and NGOs.

He will hold a bilateral meeting with the Speaker of the Israeli Knesset Yuli-Yoel Edelstein before delivering a formal address to the Knesset at 1pm. A press conference in the Knesset will follow the speech.

President Schulz at 3:30 will meet Chief negotiator Tzipi Livni. At 4.30pm he will meet with Israeli President Shimon Peres. He will also hold a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu.
