Cities are best placed to mitigate the effects of climate change, and it is vital that they have the resources to implement effective and innovative actions. The event will gather over 100 mayors from 30 countries.

The event was supported by French Prime-minister Jean-Marc Ayrault and saw high-level representatives from national governments, the business community, non-governmental and international organisations and the media. Confirmed attendees included George Ferguson, Mayor of Bristol (United Kingdom), James Nxumalo, Mayor of Durban (South Africa), Philippe de Fontaine Vive Curtaz, Vice-President, European Investment Bank (EIB) and many others.

A high-level dialogue on financing local climate action was held, followed by the concluding plenary of the ECOCITY World Summit 2013. ThisSaturday the Nantes Declaration of Mayors and Subnational Leaders on Climate Change was adopted.
