FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL DU FILM FRANCOPHONE

Namur, capital city of the walloon region in Belgium will be during 8 days the capital city of the french-speaking movies. Indeed, from Sept. 27th. untill Oct. 04th., this will be the 28th. edidtion of the “FIFF” (“Festival International du Film Francophone”).

les-auberges-de-jeunesse-fiff-2012Of course, we will find new films from France, Canada (Québec), Luxembourg, Zwitzerland and Belgium, but also from Bulgaria, Romania, Africa (Algeria, Cameroun, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Morocco, Senegal, Tchad, Togo), Asia (Cambodja, Lebanon, Vietnam), all countries being recognized like having some ties with the french language or being former french colonies. And like each year, some ambassadors will be present in Namur, to discover a film of their own country.

Some movies of the province of Québec (Canada), for some commercial reasons, are english-speaking, with french subtitles, like for other movies shown in their national languages.

Also, the Flemish movie selected for the “Oscars” 2013, “The Broken Circle Breakdown” (Felix van Groeningen), being already on the screens in the USA,  will be shown in Namur. Indeed, since 2006, each year, three flemish movies, selected by the the “Oostende Film Festival”  are shown during the “FIFF”. A good exemple of the good cultural relations between the north and the south of our country.

But here in Namur, the winnars do not receive any “Oscar” or “César”, but well 7 “Bayards” (from the name of a horse in a local legend) and some other prices. Nadine Labaki (Lebanon) is the President of the main Jury (7 people from 4 continents). She received the “Bayard d’Or” in 2011, with her movie “Et maintenant on va où?”.

For the Opening Gala, on Sept. 29th., we will have the winnar of the Canne’s Festival : “La Vie d’Adèle” (Abdelatif Kechiche). On Oct. 04th., another movie winnar of the “Palme d’Or” will be show : ” Les Parapluies de Cherbourg” (Jacques Demy, in 1963), just before the Closing Gala, with “Les Ames de Papier” (Vincent Lannoo). Also, on Oct. 03d., we will have a Belgian documentary, “Sobre las Brasas” (Benedicte Lienard, who was one assistant of the two Dardenne brothers), showing the life of a family in the Peruvian Amazonian’s district.

For the blind people, two movies will be show in audio-description. Now, the “FIFF” is also the place where many professionals meet to sell their movies and to speak about the evolution of the 7th. art during some conferences. Also, with his section “FIFF Campus” about 8000 students come to see some movies and participate to some activities. For them, like for everyone, the “FIFF” is a great opportunity to see long or short movies wich will never be show in the main Belgian movie theatres. Not only with fictions but also with documentaries, this is a real chance to learn more about different african, asian or eastern european cultures.

To see as much movies you like during eight days, the pass costs 25€00 (20€00 only for seniors citizen and students, free for teenagers from 15 untill 18 years old, between 3:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.). The one day pass cost 8€00.

Some movies will be shown in Charleroi, Liège and Louvain-la-Neuve. Also, in Brussels, we will have two movies : “Diego Star” (Frederick Pelletier), on Oct. 01st., in “Bozar”, and “Les Garçons et Guillaume,à Table” (Guilaume Galienne), on Oct.03d., in “UGC-Toison d’Or”.  on Oct. 03d.
