NO DEADLINE FOR EXTENSION OF BRUSSELS METRO TO THE NORTH
FEB.20.2013 – A debate took place at the Brussels regional parliament this wednesday about the presumed extension of the metro to the north (Schaerbeek, Evere).
Regional minister for transport Brigitte GROUWELS was challenged today by different members of the opposition (liberals & greens) about the extension of the brussels tube to the north. The suburbs of Schaerbeek and Evere have more and more inhabitants and the mobility over there is not easy. Although the STIB (brussels public company for transport) took some initiatives, like the creation of tram line 62, it is still compulsory to have a decent metro link to the center of the city. It is generally accepted that 10 years are needed between the final decision and the start of the line.
2023 seems to be the closer date. Brigitte GROUWELS refused to give a deadline, which created the discontent of the opposition.
