Charles Picqué has been for more than 20 year an important decisionmaker on Brussels. On may 7th 2013, he’ll quit the presidence of the brussels government.
In Belgium, with three regions, flemish, walloon and brussels, the federalism has as consequence that each region has a government and a first minister.
When the brussels region came to life in 1989, the young Charles Picqué led the brussels government till 1999, shaping the region, starting from scratch.
In 2004 till now, he came back at the top of the brussels government. Quite 18 years as head of a regional government is a very long period and it’s yest said that Charles Picqué will stay in the brussels politics as mayor of Saint-Gilles, in the south of the Brussels region, where he was reelected in october 2012, during the city elections.
Charles Picqué will be replaced by PS-whip in the regional parliament Rudy Vervoort in the brussels regional parliament.
