EUROPEAN FOREST GOVERNANCE: A CONFERENCE AT THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
The european parliamentary intergoup “Climate change, biodiversity and sustainable development” organised on january 9th 2012 a conference at the european parliament in Brussels about “European Forest Governance” with ThinkForest, an inspiring think thank on strategic forest-related issues.
During this afternoon of discussion, the participants focused on how to create a european global governance of the forests while this issue is linked to the competence of the EU-member states because of the subsidiarity principles.
There is no doubt that issues like effect of climate change on the forests, protection of natural resources, biodiversity in the forests, industrial activities in a forest environment have to receive a global european approach. That’s why high profile participants met in Brussels as Göran Persson, former swedish prime miniter and president of Thinkforest; Janusz Zaleski, minister of environment in Poland, and lots of prominent scholars and a few MEPs.
The reflection about an european coordinated forest management will be set further in the coming months.
