DISCOVER THE PORT OF BRUSSELS
Just a few people do know it. Brussels is not only the capital of Europe but it’s also a port.
More specifically an inland port situated on the canal Charleroi-Antwerp, just 5 hours sailing from the port of Antwerp, with only two locks.
Brussels is the second inland port of the country and vessels up to 4500 tons can reach Brussels.
Lots of companies are situating along the quays of Brussels Port. There are businesses from a variety of sectors, including food and agriculture, building materials, energy, chemicals, scrap metal salvage and recycling, etc.
All these companies enjoy the indrastructures the port offers and the length of the quays is an impressive 12km (including 2.8km of harbour wharfage) from the center of the city to Buda (Vilvoorde). There are 82 ha of port facilities and infrastructures…and there are still a lot of new projects developping (some of them in real estate) around the port of Brussels. A TIR center (for the road transport is also associated to the Port of Brussels) with a surface of 160000m2 is also linked to the port.
The Port of Brussels Authority has been created by the Brussels region in association with cities (Molembeek St Jean, Brussels city, Etterbeek, Saint-Josse, Anderlecht, Koekelberg, Etterbeek, Saint-Gilles) and a subsidiary of the brussels region development company.
The port of Brussels is reachable for the vessels 365 days a year and 24h a day.
