“In Communication We Trust” Launches in Istanbul with a Multisensory Celebration of Diplomacy, Art, and Gastronomy

Istanbul’s cultural and intellectual circles converged on Sunday evening for the highly anticipated launch of In Communication We Trust, the new book by communication strategist Ipek Tekdemir. Far more than a traditional book debut, the event unfolded as a curated fusion of diplomacy, artistic expression, and culinary storytelling—reflecting the book’s central message that communication is the essential force shaping trust in a rapidly changing world.

Hosted at the Beyoğlu atelier of acclaimed Turkish artist İsmail Acar, the evening offered a dynamic, interdisciplinary journey that brought together diplomats, communication experts, artists, business leaders, and global thinkers.

A Call to Rebuild Trust Through Communication

The program opened with an elegant reception, followed by a thoughtprovoking introduction by Ioanna Stefatou, who framed communication as a shared societal responsibility and a living space where trust is continuously cultivated.

In her keynote remarks, author Ipek Tekdemir positioned her book as a timely response to today’s fragmented global discourse:

Communication today is not merely about transmitting information; it is about restoring trust, rebuilding meaning, and reconnecting people across differences. This book is an invitation to rethink how we listen, engage, and truly understand one another.”

Chief editor Chris White, senior British journalist, highlighted the book’s interdisciplinary depth:

What makes this work particularly compelling is its ability to transcend theory. It places communication at the intersection of politics, culture, and human experience—offering both intellectual depth and practical relevance.”

Renowned communication scholar Dr. Nancy Snow added:

In communication we must trust, or we risk greater peril. Even a smile, a kind word, a simple hello can move mountains.”

Offering a geopolitical perspective, Markus Slevogt, Chair of the EuropeanTurkish Trade and Investment Council (ETTIC), emphasized the urgency of redefining communication in an era of shifting narratives:

We are witnessing a profound shift in how narratives are created and consumed. In such a landscape, trust becomes our most valuable currency—and communication its primary vehicle.”

A Multisensory Cultural Experience

The evening then transitioned into an artistic performance titled Layers of Communication, created by İsmail Acar. Blending OttomanAnatolian motifs with contemporary abstraction and accompanied by a Sufielectronic soundscape, the performance offered a visual and auditory exploration of communication across time and culture.

Culinary storytelling followed with Edible Diplomacy: A Culinary Dialogue, crafted by Chef Giovanni Terracciano, whose dishes—including a signature saffron risotto—translated cultural exchange into flavor.

Cuisine is a universal language,” Terracciano noted. “Through taste, we communicate identity, heritage, and openness to the world.”

A captivating piano recital by Turan Manafzade further elevated the evening, symbolically bridging East and West through music.

A Celebration of Connection

The program concluded with a book signing session, offering guests the opportunity to meet Tekdemir and engage in meaningful conversation.

More than a launch event, the evening embodied the essence of In Communication We Trust: that authentic, thoughtful communication transcends disciplines and remains essential to building a more connected, empathetic, and understanding global society.
