A great french politician of the 20th century, Maurice FAURE, died yesterday at home in Cahors, in the beautiful region he originated from and wher ehe always loved to live. he was born in 1922
Maurice Faure read law before becoming himself a lecturer at Sciences-Po Toulouse, in the beautiful South-West region of France he never let. He was a passionate politician, lover of his terroir and the people living there and accomplished many political duties. He was first in the ministerial cabinets before becoming an active politician on local, regional, national and european level.
Maurice Faure became for the first time an MP when he was 29 in 1951. He stayed at the french national assembly till 1983 where he made his entry in the french senate.
In 1957, when the Treaty of Rome was signed between the 6 foun ding countries, Maurice Faure was secretary of State for international affairs in the government of Guy Mollet, Bourgès
He was also minister of european affairs in the government of Pierre Pfimlin.
On local level, he was mayor of Prayssac (1953 -1965), and mayre of Cahors (1965 – 1990).
He was also two years MEP from 1979 to 1981. Maurice for was for a long time president of the deparment assembly of Lot (1971 – 1995) and vice-president of region Midy-Pyrenees
During the presidence of François Mitterrand, he was serval times minister. Housing and Justice were some of his duties.
