Tourism in Ghana is experiencing a major boom, reaching record levels in 2024 with 1.29 million visitors and USD 4.8 billion in revenue,

supported by the "Destination Ghana" strategy. The country is focusing on heritage tourism (Year of Return), cultural tourism, and ecotourism (surfing, beaches) to become a leading destination in Africa, despite structural challenges.

Here are the key points of tourism development in Ghana:

Heritage and cultural tourism: Ghana is attracting a large diaspora, particularly from the United States and the United Kingdom, by showcasing its history, forts and castles, and vibrant culture.
Government strategy: The "Destination Ghana" initiative aims to strengthen infrastructure, promote sustainable tourism, and simplify visas to attract more than one million tourists annually.

Economic growth: The sector is a pillar of diversification, generating record revenue in 2024 and creating hundreds of thousands of jobs. Diversification of the offering: Beyond its historical sites, Ghana is developing surfing, cruise tourism, and ecotourism to diversify the tourist experience.

Challenges: Development faces challenges, including the need to improve infrastructure, service quality, and ensure greater inclusion of local communities.

Ghana is thus positioning itself as a major player in tourism on the continent, with ambitious goals for the coming years.
