Russia denies new military basis plans

Russia is not going to create any new military bases abroad, said Valentina Matviyenko the speaker of the Federation Concil, the higher chamber of Russian Parliament. Underlining the importance of the signed  this month agreement between Russia and Syria on the expansion and modernization of the Russian Navy base in Syria’s Tartus, Matvienko assured that “there are no talks about any other military base today’, – according to Russian mass media.

Earlier this month her colleage, the  Chairman of the Federation Council of Defense Viktor Ozerov also denied the talks with Libya on establishment of military bases in Africa. “Such negotiations are not underway”, – he reassured.
