SolarPower Europe comments on European Commission’s project #Brussels #energy #UE
The European Commission, presented proposals to deliver a new deal for energy consumers, to launch a redesign of the European electricity market, to update energy efficiency labelling and to revise the EU Emissions Trading System.
It is an important step towards implementing the Energy Union strategy with a forward looking climate change policy. Today’s proposals give prominence to the “energy efficiency first” principle and put households and business consumers at the heart of the European energy market.
Today, 15th July, SolarPower Europe President has commented about the market design of this “Summer Package” designed by the EU saying that: “The active involvement of consumers and “prosumers” of decentralised electricity in the European power system is a key element for the creation of a secure and affordable energy supply that will increasingly be based on solar power. The new system must also make use of different flexibility options, built around variable and predictable renewables such as solar power. The European Commission rightly puts these elements forward in its energy market package. Now real legislative action must follow these principles!”
Moreover, the SolarPower Europe President believes that the right regulaotry framework could achieve a flexible and cost-effective energy system by 2025, allowing solar to show its full competitiveness in the European market.
