TRADFEST Belgium 2015 will see an explosion of vibrant Irish music across Brussels this June with over 50 contributors (musicians, dancers and experts) travelling from 5 countries to perform in 11 different Brussels venues including in some of Brussels best known Irish pubs.
“There are huge numbers of connections between Ireland and Belgium. Next month we will add a new one. Irish music will come to Belgium like never before. Belgians who visit Ireland often do so because of our reputation for great music. There are up to 15,000 Irish people living in Belgium. These are the reasons we are doing this festival” said Eammon Mac Aodha, Ambassador of Ireland H.E.
Renowned Irish and world music band Kila will headline the festival at Bozar on 11 June. Kíla’s smile-making, hip-shaking funky brand of Irish music will be presented in a great acoustic setting. Kíla are collaborators with Bruno Coulais on the film soundtracks of the Oscar nominated animations Brendan et le Secret de Kells and Le Chant de la Mer. Contemporary Trad Band Perfect Friction will open for Kila’s headline concert at Bozar.
Over 5 days from 10-14 June other Irish dancers and musicians from Belgium, France, the UK, Luxembourg and Spain will perform live, showcasing the rhythm and soul of Irish music. Prominent experts on Irish music including the celebrated Fintan Vallely will speak on the place of Irish music in today’s world.
