Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders is following with concern the ongoing events in Bujumbura. He calls on all parties to show restraint and not to use violence.Burundi has come a long way since the end of the civil war and the Arusha Accords. These achievements must not be questioned. The legitimacy of power can only come from the popular will expressed through the vote. It is therefore essential that all stakeholders commit themselves to meeting in emergency the conditions necessary to organise peaceful, inclusive and transparent elections, in the spirit of the Arusha Accords.
