UN: risk of Escalation in Ukraine.
UN is strongly worried about the situation in Ukraine. According to the Secretary General of the Political affairs of UN, Jens Anders Toyberg-Frandzen, the main issue is the risk of escalation in a war on large scale. Indeed one of the potential scenarios is a persistent conflict involving many Eastern European countries which would keep the status quo of the Eastern Europe for many years.
The last meeting of the Security Council of UN about the Ukranian situation was requested by the United States after that NATO and OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) had verified the arrival of Russian convoys. The Delegate of Moscow at UN said that those were lies which could have negative consequences on the political relations between Ukraine and Russia.
The government of Kiev decided to relocate its army because of potential and unpredictable military actions by pro-Russia convoys. In particular the security of the city of Mariupol has been reinforced as the Ukranian executive fears about possible rebels’attacks.
Despite 4000 victims in 7 months and the cease fire decided on the 5th of September, pro-Russia and Ukranian troops fighted last Wedsneday in Donetsk.
