Success for the GREEN IT NET conference in Rome

On 29th October the City of Rome and its municipal agency, Risorse per Roma, hosted the final conference of the Green IT Net European Project in the magnificent Sala del Tempio di Adriano of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Rome.

Over 90 people participated in the event which saw the partners of the project – Riga, Manchester, Rome, Risorse per Roma, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Catania, Lund, Malta, Kranj and Czestochowa – illustrating their experiences on the transfer and implementation of good practices focused on green Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and greening by ICT in Europe, and their activities of networking, investigating and selecting policies carried out since 2012.

The good practices illustrated during the conference, which have been transferred and implemented by the partners for intelligent IT solutions to improve energy management and energy efficiency, are the following:

  • Green IT Energy Solutions for Datacentres-Quickscan Datacentre facilities Riga (from Amsterdam to Riga)

  • Urban Lab – Airport Garden City Lelystad (from Barcelona to Amsterdam)

  • Bicing – Smart bike sharing system (from Barcelona to Rome)

  • Eblomladan (from Malmö to Barcelona)

  • Future City in Manchester (from Amsterdam to Manchester)

  • Wi-Move – Tourism, Transport and Logistics (from Rome to Malta)

  • Bicycle friendly city (from Malmö to Kranj)

  • Greener Street Lighting (from Malmö to Czestochowa)

  • Wi-Move – Tourism, Transport and Logistics (from Rome to Catania)

  • Sustainable energy planning (from Riga to Catania)

Green IT has been recognized throughout the world as necessary to achieve the objectives of reducing CO2 emissions. The opportunity to share experiences of different cities in Europe offers a chance of success in a new field of regional policy and the exchange of ideas on new common projects in the field of the innovation and ICT to combat climate change.

The Marketplace of good and transferable local practices was the highlight of the conference, giving participants and journalists an extraordinary and fruitful opportunity to exchange views and experiences. Discussions continued whilst enjoying typical local short-chain food products during the lunch offered by the City of Rome.
