megabus launches new european network from Brussels.
megabus.com, provider of low cost international coach services, today announced the opening of her first European base in Belgium (Brussels) from which a new network of services in the Benelux region and in France will be launched. New services will link Brussels with Lille, Luxembourg and Rotterdam from 6 October, offering fares from €1 (+50c booking fees).
The significant growth in the popularity of low-cost inter-city coach travel in Europe convinced market-leading operator megabus.com to expand activities in continental Europe. As well as serving Luxembourg for the first time, the coach operator also plans to increase daily frequencies from Brussels to some destinations, among which Paris, Amsterdam and Cologne. In addition, the new timetable means that Antwerp will now have a direct service to Cologne for the first time, operating one service a day in each direction.
With its base in Brussels, megabus.com is creating 20 jobs. The depot, located at Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, will be used by a fleet of six vehicles and the operation will be headed by a general manager. In order to serve the new routes, the company has placed an order of six coaches – representing an investment of over €2million. The 72-seat vehicles are all being manufactured by Belgium based coach builder VanHool, and will be equipped with free Wifi, power sockets and onboard toilet facilities for additional comfort and convenience.
Tickets with fares as from €1,-* are on sale from this week – at www.megabus.com – for the new network of routes.
