Naples, falling flake of a plaster killed 14 year-old boy.
Naples, Italy. Salvatore Giordano, a 14-year-old Italian boy has passed away after been hit by a falling masonry from the historic Gallery “Umberto I”, last Saturday. In the last days the conditions of Salvatore Giordano became desperate when doctors faced with a state of deep coma. Nevertheless they initiated procedures to confirm that they state of brain death, according to the protocols provided by law.
The Naples Public Prosecutor opened an investigation to establish responsibility and competence of the maintenance of the cornice collapsed. At the moment, it is not yet clear the property of that collapsed piece of cornice: Council of Naples or some building private company. In the coming days the judges will evaluate the possibility of entrusting an expert to clarify the causes of the separation of debris. On Tuesday, the Naples Public Prosecutor asked the police to acquire newsrooms pictures and films relating to the collapse of rubble.
The Mayor of Naples has immediately announced a day of city mourning for an absurd death that must not be repeated. The Salvatore’s death draws attention to the state of abandonment of important ancient monuments and places of one of the most beautiful cities in Europe for its history and culture. This sad event also makes even more delicate the tourism in Naples, an economic sector which should improve the entire economy of a city with a high unemployment rate.
