LA CHAMBRE BLEUE OPENS THE BRUSSELS FILM FESTIVAL
The 12th BRUSSELS FILM FESTIVAL is held from 6 to 14 June 2014 at Flagey and at the Cinematek. Presided by Ivan Corbusier, the festival welcomes Sir Alan Parker as our guest of honour.
In 2010, actor Mathieu Amalric opened the Brussels Film Festival with the impressive Tournée, his film as director. This year, he is back with his new film that will have the honour to open the festival once again. Adapted from the novel by Georges Simenon, La Chambre Bleue stars Amalric himself and Léa Drucker. In a room, a man and a woman live their passion in secret. Their desire is intense. The man seems to think that they are casual. But one day he is handcuffed and has to explain himself to the police and the judge. What happened? What is he accused of? What did he really do? “Life is different when you live it than when you look at it afterwards”. Needless to say that tension and suspense are pending with this fascinating and thrilling film, which has already seduced the very last Cannes Film Festival. And we should not forget the wonderful photography by Christophe Beaucarne.
And as the closing night film, the Brussels Film Festival chose The Two Faces of January, the first feature film by the screenwriter of the already cult Drive! The film is a very well-done adaptation of the eponymous novel by Patricia Highsmith, the thriller queen, and takes us in the 1960s Greece. A dashing tourist American couple, the charismatic Chester MacFarland and his young wife Colette, arrives in Athens. At the Acropolis they meet Rydal, a young Greek-speaking American who is also a tourist scammer. Attracted by Colette’s beauty and impressed with Chester’s fortune, Rydal accepts their invitation to dinner. But behind their luxury and sophistication, the American couple hides deep secrets… Directed by Hossein Amini, The Two Faces of January stars the brilliant Viggo Mortensen, Kirsten Dunst and Oscar Isaac.
