MONTREAL: NORTH AMERICAN CENTER FOR BUSINESS, CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION
On the occasion of the visit of the Mayor of Montreal and president of the Montreal Metropolitan Community, Denis Coderre, today we attended the conference organized by CanCham BeLux (Chamber of Commerce Canada-Belgium-Luxembourg) and their partners in order to promote the development of economic relations between the city of Montreal and European investors.
Montreal is a city in the Canadian province of Quebec. It is the largest city in the province, the second-largest in Canada and the 8th-largest in North America. Surpassed in population and economic strength by Toronto in the 1970s, it remained an important centre of commerce, aerospace, finance, pharmaceuticals, technology, design, culture, tourism, gaming, film and world affairs, and it was named a UNESCO City of Design. Montreal’s many cultural communities have given it a distinct local culture, with a metropolitan area population of approximately 4 million.
During the conference, the Mayor of Montreal has demonstrated the willingness of an innovative and open economy, a competitive tax regime for investments and R&D expenditures, as well as an extraordinary spirit of cooperation towards European investors. “Starting in 2007, the percentage of the number of investments coming from Europe has increased considerably than those in the the United States, our major partners”, said Denis Coderre. Based on the current situation, the main objectives of future development of Montreal will cover the urban setting of a rapidly growing city which Montreal, especially in reference to the transport sector and urban services, typical drawbacks of the fast growing city.
