THE EUROPEAN MILK MARKET OBSERVATORY
Yesterday, the entire Board of CEJA participated in the kick-off meeting of the European Milk Market Observatory.
Following his announcement back in 2013, Commissioner Ciolos officially introduced the Milk Market Observatory to stakeholders and public. The Observatory will allow for better monitoring of the dairy market and for easier adjustment of producers to the end of the quota system. CEJA, as a prominent stakeholder in the milk supply chain strongly welcomes the move and is set to offer its best expertise as part of the new Observatory.
CEJA’s Vice-president Alan Jagoe welcomed the setting-up of the Milk Market Observatory and mentioned that along with its website it will serve as a “positive step forward, giving farmers up-to-date information on market trends and prices… With this new information at our finger tips through our smart phones, this allows young farmers to make relevant and important decision when necessary”. He called however, for the Observatory to remain apolitical while political decisions should be made in the milk advisory group instead.
