Making a donation to help  a family is good, but to  give one’s  support to a whole community is even better.

Elevages Sans Frontières is a French NGO that uses  a system of microcredit with animals.

Following the principle  of  ‘who  gives,  receives’,  the  idea is to create a multiplier effect thanks to a unique donation.

For each  animal  received,  the  beneficiaries  have  to  give  a  young  female  to  another  family,  etc.  Instead  of assisting the local populations like many associations do, the main missions of ESF are to ensure food and economic  sovereingty for the families in need. Because, among the billion of people who suffer from hunger,
70%  are  farmers.  For  this  reason,  strenghtening  the  local  production  would  allow  the  beneficiaries  to  become  actors  of  their  own  development.

Breeding animals is the starting point, but  in the long run it will
also  be  possible  for  the  children to go to school  thanks to the incomes generated by the  chickens, cows and  goats  received.  ESF  currently  intervenes  in  nine  countries,  most of  them being located in Africa, but also in Europe with Albania and Kosovo for instance.

The  TGE,  what  is  it?  To  palliate  the  lack  of uniformisation regarding donations inside Europe,  this private initiative  aims  at making free cross­border philanthropy possible on our  continent. The TGE covers sixteen countries and  allows donors, public or  private, to give financial  support to NGO’s based in another Member State than the one  they live  in, when at the same time benefiting from tax advantages applied in the latter.

Elevages  Sans  Frontières  is  one  example  out  of  many  other  non­-profit  associations  linked  to  the Transnational  Giving  Europe.  Nevertheless,  it  is  unique  because  of  the  microcredit  sytem  withanimals, never seen in Belgium ever before.

Send a Cow or Heifer International use the same principle in anglophone
countries, but ESF was the first NGO  that brought this principle first to France, and now to Belgium.
