IN THE BRUSSELS DISTRICT OF IXELLES: HOW THEY THINK TO EUROPE
Solange PITROIPA is a city councillor in Ixelles, where the European Parliament is situated. Solange is very sensitive to the presence of the european citizens in Ixelles. She introduced a motion to create a visible link between Ixelles and the European Union. This motion was accepted by the whole city council.
Solange proposes a slab on the ground, on a sidewalk on the Luxembourg place, which would indicate a central point where democratic decisions are taken in Europe. From this point, lines are drawn to other EU capitals.Ixelles can redraw the “Greenwich meridian” of democracy. Technically speaking, the councillor proposes a steel plate or a blue stone, round with a diameter of 2m. A central point, and 27 lines up to 27 other European capitals indicating, of course, distances, dates of arrival into the EU “This plate must be overcome by the European flag and give a few words of explanation”, explains Solange PITROIPA
