THE MOSEL RIVER AT THE EP, A GREAT EUROPEAN COOPERATION
The Mosel River flows through three countries which once were antoagonists: the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, France and Germany. Today they are united to promote the richness of their terroir.
This tuesday at the European Parliament, all Mosellans were together to promote their common river, their wine and their gastronomy
Christa Klass MEP (CDU/EPP, DE) from Trier in Germany had gathered colleagues, friends, and lots of wine queens to celebrate the wine of Moselle and the collaboration and friendship between the three neighbouring countries which share the same traditions, the same river and the culture of wine. The assembly greeted the presence of the chairwoman of the wine intergroup at the EP, Astrid Lülling MEP (CSV/EPP, Lu) , and of Gaston Franco MEP (UMP/EPP, F)
yesterday, they were presenting Terroir Moselle to the members of the european community at the EP. Terroir Moselle is a unique cooperation project between wineries of the three countries to promote the wines of the Moselle Valley. Most of them use the same grapes: pinot gris, pinot blanc pinot auxerrois, riesling, sylvaner, muller-thurgau, pinot noir (spätburgunder) and the wine traditions are slightly different in the three countries but it’s always a pleasure to discover differences and similarities.
There are in the Mosel Valley 4000 wine companies and 229 wine villages for 10500 cultivated hectares. A huge region which is promoted in common thanks to this great european project which makes of ennemies of the past friends of today and the future.
Winemakers of Côtes de Toul, French Mosel, Luxemburg Mosel and German Mosel participated to this successfull event.
