LOMBARDIA. A STRONG ECONOMIC REGION OF ITALY

Brussels Diplomatic met the head of the Lombardia Delegation in Brussels to discuss about the importance of Lombardia, one of the italian regions.

Lombardia is situated in the north of Italy. It’s the richest region of the country. Lombardia alone has a total employment of 4.000.000 people. Most of them work in the services (65%) and 36% work in the industry. The Lombardia region is the first agriculture region in Italy and one of the first in Europe thanks to its territory which represents one of the most happy synthesis between culture, local identity and excellence of the products..

The Giunta Regionale is the governing power of the region. The president is Roberto Maroni (Lega Nord) a former italian minister of internal affairs. The population of Lombardia is 9.749.543 inhabitants in 2012. It’s the most populated region of whole Italia. Milano has 1.350.267 inhabitants. Lombardia has 4 airports and the highways and routes network is very well-developped.

We spoke with Mr GianLorenzo Martini, the head of the Lombardia liaison office in Brussels, about the policies of this most important region of Italy and its role in Brussels.
