INAUGURATION OF THE SPACE WEATHER COORDINATION CENTRE
Uccle – At the royal meteorological observatory, the ESA officials inaugurated today the space weather coordination centre, taking into account the know-how of belgian scientists.
The weather in the space is also extremely important for lots of human activities: planes, satellites, astronauts, geonavigation by satellite, telecommunications, …
The idea was dus to have a precise forecast of the weather in the space and more particularly around the sun. Sun storms, pressions changes, waves interferences and other disturbations can happen regularly in the space. They can seriously damage satellites for example or disturb the flying activity. The ESA decided to start a space weather coordination center, from Uccle, in the suburbs of Brussels. Its areas of expertise will be: solar weather, ionospheric weather, the geomagnetic environment and the orbital radiation environment
This new service will be very useful for different areas of space activity, railroad transport, the geolocalisation industry and lots of other activities.
