CROSS-BORDER SECURITY COOPERATION BETWEEN FRANCE AND BELGIUM

FEB.27.2013- Manuel Valls, french minister of interior brought a short visit to Belgium to discuss cross-border securtity cooperation.

vallsManuel Valls, the socialist french minister of interior met the belgian minister Joëlle Milquet in Brussels to discuss cross-border police and security cooperation.

Yest some years ago, an agreement was signed in Tournai between France and Belgium to get a better cooperation on police and judicial point of view. The idea is to strengthen the taken measures.

The region of Tournai and Mouscron is close to  the suburbs of Roubaix and Tourcoing which have a high criminality level. Recently, due to strengthened police cooperation, criminals who attacked a Decathlon store in France could be arrested shortly after on the other side of the border.

In the future, there will be mixed patrols with french and belgian policians and both police forces will have the right to penetrate the territory of the other country to exercise a right of pursuit of criminals.
