SELLA&MOSCA, THE BEST SARDINIAN WINE
FEB.07.2013 – Sella & Mosca Winery of the Year for the Italian Wines Guide 2013 by Gambero Rosso. The recognition puts a spotlight on one of the companies that have contributed to enrich the history of Italy and to know an extraordinary region: Sardinia.
“A particular merit of this award is given to all the people who over the years have worked with commitment and dedication from the management of the country to the cellar”, – comments Andrea Montorfano, CEO Sella & Mosca. Het adds: “All the team is helping to make Sella & Mosca one of the most successful italian wineries in Italy and abroad. This award is for all of us a further incentive to continue on the path of qualitative excellence and a strong innovative drive. “
Founded in 1899 by engineer in Alghero Sella and Mosca Advocate, Sella & Mosca stretches over 650 hectares of which 550 are planted with vines, making it one of the largest wine estates in one heart in Europe. To these, two fields are added: the estates vineyards in Gallura (15 hectares) in the north-east of the island and in Giba Sulcis (6 acres), on the southwestern coast.
Located in one of the most fascinating areas of Italy, Sardinia, in its long history Sella & Mosca has been able to better interpret the terroir through the development of grape varieties and the introduction of international grape varieties. Sella & Mosca has managed to combine quantity and quality with a significant production volume and periods of very high quality.
A brand symbol is certainly the Marquis of Villamarina, Cabernet Sauvignon, this year awarded with the recognition of three glasses from Gambero Rosso for the thirteenth time in a row and with the Five clusters of the guide Duemilavini of the Italian Sommelier Association. A wine that represents the original expression of the nature, able to compete with the great wine regions of the world.
Since its founding Sella & Mosca takes on a pioneering role in italian enology.. The engineer and lawyer Sella Moscow decided to reclaim the area in the territory of Alghero, transforming the land left to graze in suitable vineyards. The project begins with the goal of restarting the European wine after the phylloxera. Over time, the production of quality wines becomes the focus, through continuous experimentation and research.
In addition to the development of the two main grape varieties in Sardinia: vermentino and cannonau, the symbol of the capacity to innovate is certainly the torbato. It is a Spain native grape of ancient origin, vinified exclusively by Sella & Mosca in four different interpretations and finds its highest expression in Cuvée 161 Alghero DOC Torbato (white wine).
The vocation of the territory and the technical know-how suited in 2002 to the strategic vision of the Campari Group, which brings new momentum and a strong innovative spirit. Today Sella & Mosca is part of the newborn project Campari Wines, which also includes three other wineries (Teruzzi & Puthod, Enrico Serafino and Lamargue) and seven exclusive distribution brands (Fazi Battaglia, The Fracce, Icario, Kupelwieser, Urciuolo, Capraia and Mouton Cadet).
