Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice President of the Commission, announced today the appointment of Vygaudas Usackas the new Head of Delegation to the Russian Federation.

5735092-saint-basils-cathedral-red-square-moscow-russiaMr Usackas has, since 2010, been appointed as Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in Afghanistan. Prior to that, he followed a distinguished diplomatic career in Lithuania, including: Ambassador, first to the United States of America, and subsequently to the United Kingdom, before serving ultimately as Foreign Minister of Lithuania.

Catherine Ashton said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Usackas as Head of our Delegation in Moscow. This is a key position in the European External Action Service. Vygaudas Usackas has done an exceptional job for us in Afghanistan and I look forward to working with him in this new role.”
