NATIONAL DAY IN ETHIOPIA ON MAY 28
Ethiopia will celebrate the National Day on May, 28.
The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is a country located in the Horn of Africa. It is bordered by Eritrea to the north and northeast, Djibouti and Somalia to the east, Sudan and South Sudan to the west, and Kenya to the south. It as over 93.000.000 inhabitants.
The National Day of Ethiopia remembers the collapse of the opressive Derg regime, which governed the country from 1974 to 1991. This is a major national holiday in Ethiopia. Every year, May 28th is observed to mark the end of the Derg Regime on this day in 1991.
This is a big countrywide event. Special speeches are delivered to show tribute to the martyrs, and a number of monuments are put up all over the city of Addis Ababa, the national capital. Politicians attend war monuments and adress the countrymen to offer laurels to the martyrs who lost their lives in the Red Terror and the Civil War. The event is one of the most significant festivals in Ethiopia and is treated as work free.
