Finland and Argentina to recognise Catalonia

The European Commission declined any comments on birth of Catalan Republic, however the president of the EU Council Donald Tusk confirmed via social media the position the bloc took previously towards events in the “Land of Castles” – Catalunya.

For EU nothing changes. Spain remains our only interlocutor. I hope the Spanish government favours force of argument, not argument of force.

The reaction of the President of Catalan Republic Carles Puigdemont appeared swiftly:

President Puigdemont also exchanged comments with the Prime minister of Belgium Charles Michel, insuring that Republic will always opt for dialogue and peaceful solutions.

Some EU politicians were more proactive in their reaction on events in Iberian peninsula – Finnish Members of the Parliament intend to debate and adopt resolution on recognition of Catalan Republic next week.
